Hymn to Vishnu (Shatpadi)
Shatpadi, is a literary and devotional Masterpiece of Sri Adi Sankaracarya, singing and chanting which our minds get absorbed in its nectar-like meaning.
The bee gently unfolds the petals of the flowers and dives deep to revel in the flavour of the nectar. Swami Tejomayananda's beautiful commentary unfolds the wonderful feeling (bhava) of this prayer and inspires us too, to surrender at the lotus-feet of the compassionate Lord of the universe and the self of all - Visnu.
Shiva Panchakshara Stotram
For Centuries, temples across India have reverberated with the terse yet tremendously potent mantra Om Namah Sivaya. In fact, such is the appeal of the five syllable (Panchakshari) phrase-as well as the deity it celebrates-that the great philosopher-cum-reformer of yore, Sri Adi Sankaracarya, made the mantra the very basis of a hymn he wrote in praise of Lord Shiva. And a delightful, exemplary meditation that hymn is, given that a mantra is intended to be not just repeated mechanically, but also reflected upon by the chanter.
But whilst the Panchakshari Mantra itself has inherited a special place in the heart and life of every Hindu, in literally every corner of the country, it is remarkable that there has not been a proper commentary Adi Shankaracharya's Panchakshari Stotram...until now. To the Advaita master's musings, simultaneously pregnant with devotion and thought, Swami Swaroopananda brings in this book his own meditations, drenched in the desire to experience Shiva the way the original author did. In the process, the reader is benefitted with not just knowledge but also inspiration...to see the Divine not just as a definite form, but as the magnificent, ineffable spirit that supreme Reality truly is.
A bonus dividend of Swamiji's labour of love is that the reader will find the resources to uncover- and overcome - the five fundamental fears that afflict every human being, no matter their age or stature. This is emancipation of the most practical kind.
Sri Rudra Suktam
Sri Rudra Suktam is one of the most famous hymns of the Vedas. God as Rudra is omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent and the Lord of all. Rudra appears as all, dwells in all, pervades all, is the essence of all and is all. Sri Rudra Suktam imparts this vision of the sages so that we too can see Him and worship Him through prostrations to all - those conducive & unconducive, those exalted and the despicable, those near and far, and those insignificant extra ordinary.
The sages are generous in asking and Rudra is generous in giving. Sri Rudra Suktam has a long wish list presented to Rudra as our daily prayer and worship.
Swami Tejomayananda's succinct commentary makes us relish the sweetness of each mantra as we chant and study Sri Rudra Suktam, and as promised, fulfils our desire for a good morning and a good day.
A must read for all who wish to divinize every experience of life and who want everything great in life.
